Welcome to the website of the Helston & Falmouth Model Railway Club

Helston & Falmouth Model Railway Club is the oldest model railway club in Cornwall, having been formed in 1951. 

We are a small friendly club with around 12 members drawn from a wide range of ages and abilities. Meetings Wednesdays and Fridays 8.00pm – 10.30pm on Fridays and for the Winter 2025/26 we are meeting on Wednesday afternoons from 2.00 - 4.30pm, this is for the benefit of our 'actively retired' members who are reluctant to come out on dark winter evenings but we extend a warm welcome to anyone who wishes to join us, tea and biscuits (sometimes cake!) and a friendly atmosphere. Our membership rates are scaled to be realistic and affordable and we have a number of subscription options. Why not contact us to arrange an informal visit?  We are based in Gunwalloe, about 2 miles south of Helston, near RNAS Culdrose.

Our current club 00 scale layout is St Martins Square,  measuring about 24' x 14' depicting a medium sized terminus in central Birmingham, which allows for a wide range of traffic working. This project is designed to be accessible to modellers of all abilities and experience. For an update on this layout please see the notes on our News page.

The Phase 1 rewiring  work on renovating our classic P4 layout Watermouth is  complete and most of  the station side of the layout is now operational. Phase 2, a GWR/SR Joint junction station is well underway. Anyone wishing to get involved in this exciting project can contact the Chairman for more details.

We currently have two layouts available for exhibitions; A GWR OO branch terminus layout, 'Trenance', which is designed to be easily transportable and has appeared at a number of local shows. We also have 'Lower Treluswell Viaduct' a working diorama depicting a Cornish valley spanned by a Brunel timber viaduct through which we can run a selection of typical branch line trains. We also have some ideas for new layouts in the pipeline but we need more members to make them happen!

In addition, a number of our members also have their own layouts in a variety of scales and gauges, including OO and P4.
